Kern Partners
is a leading independent energy sector private equity group established
in 2000. KERN Energy Partners I and II Funds (KEP) are private equity funds focused
on Canadian energy sector resource and infrastructure development. KEP is funded
by a group of leading North American university endowments, pension funds, foundations,
institutions and family offices as Limited Partners (LPs). The LPs include five of
North America's leading university endowments and foundations, and four of the six
largest Canadian pension funds. KEP has aggregate LP capital commitments of C$680
million. Through an active co-investment program with the LPs, KEP has the ability
to develop and present investment commitments well beyond its capital base. KERN
Partners is based in Calgary, Alberta.
In January 2007, Seneca Capital Investments (Seneca) joined Altex as an investor.
Seneca is a multi-strategy, value-focused investment fund with over US$4 billion
of assets under management and offices in New York, London and Dallas. Seneca was
founded in 1996 and maintains a diverse portfolio of investments across a broad
range of industries and geographies. Seneca has substantial experience investing
in energy, energy-related and infrastructure businesses throughout their life cycle.
In July 2007, one of America's oldest investment management firms, choosing to
remain anonymous, joined Altex as an investor. This firm provides investment
services to many of the world's leading public and private institutions. This
firm has assets under management totaling over US$500 billion.
